Albert William Dove | |
Albert William Dove was born 1893 at Thornley, Co. Durham. His parents were John Dove and Sarah Armstrong. In the 1911 census the family were living at Front Street, Haswell. Albert enlisted December 1914 at Sunderland and was by then living at Wheatley Hill. He was a putter in the Harvey Seam at Thornley Colliery. (p.79 "The Employees and Residents of Thornley, Ludworth and Wheatley Hill, their contribution in the Great War 1914-1918") Army number: 17766. Rank: Private. Unit: 9th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment. Albert was killed in action October 6, 1916. He was 23 years old. Albert had a wife, Ada, and a child. They lived at 9, Pyman Street, Wheatley Hill. Albert is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 3A and 3D. Albert is the uncle of Freda McGrath (née Dove) of Newton Aycliffe. |
