Annie Leafe |
Annie Leafe was born July 17, 1895 at Kirk Deighton, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of George Leafe and Annie Shelton. George Leafe was a farm labourer at Kirk Deighton Grange Farm and lived in the Lodge of the farm. Annie served in the Land Army in WW1. As early as October 1914 she was working at Ambleside, lodging with a Mrs Ellis at Red Bank, Ambleside. Annie sent many postcards to her siblings and her future brother in law, Herbert Grainger and his sister Ada. A postcard Ada Grainger sent to her in October, 1914, says that there were many Belgians in Harrogate. Another postcard received from her friend Barbara in December 1914 says that there were 3000 soldiers in Harrogate. |
