Arthur Duck was born June 6, 1897 at Thornley, Co. Durham. He was the son of Edward John Duck and Elizabeth Rowe. In the 1911 census the family were living at 7, South Street, Thornley.

Arthur joined the 6th East Yorks Regiment, Private 15066. He was living in Chapel Street, Thornley. Wheatley Hill History Club have Arthur and his brother Edward John in the list of Absent Voters, page 145 of their book "The Employees and Residents of Thornley, Ludworth and Wheatley Hill: Their Contribution in the Great War".

After WW1 Arthur married Matilda Jane Tonkin in 1923 and then emigrated first to Canada in 1923 and then the following year to Pennsylvania to stay with his uncle, William Freeman.

Arthur Duck is the uncle of Arthur Wilson of Newton Aycliffe.
