Arthur Frederick Muir was born November 26, 1888 at Newcastle. He was the son of John Muir of Glasgow and Jane Peddie of Holy Island, Northumberland. Arthur's's father was an engine fitter in 1901. By 1911 he was an agent, living in Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough. He had had 8 children, 1 of whom had died by 1911, as had his wife Jane. Arthur was the elder brother of Percy Muir.

Arthur married Quadrownia Fanny Fewster at Stockton in 1914 and they lived in Norton. Arthur was a motor engineer. He joined the Royal Flying Corp, P. O. 16776. He flew the Avro DH6, BE 2c, 2e &12, and Sopwith Bomber. Arthur was mentioned for valuable services.

After the was Arthur worked in India for a maharajah. He died in 1965.

Arthur Muir is the great uncle of Heather Lawson of Brafferton.
