Arthur Robert Bruce was born April 10, 1894 at Brafferton.

He was the son of Robert Robinson Bruce, blacksmith, born Brafferton, and Ann, born Ripon, and had one sister, May Bruce. In the 1901 census the family are at Brafferton and by the 1911 census Arthur was working as a blacksmith's assistant for his father.

There is a medal card for an Arthur Robert Bruce.

Arthur married Minnie Lawson in 1915.

He had a son Albert Ronald Robert Bruce, baptized November 18, 1917 and a daughter, Frances Ellen, baptized August 7, 1921 in Aycliffe.

He enlisted June 24, 1916 into the 1a Reserve Brigade, Royal Artillery, Gunner 205HH. Arthur was discharged August 25, 1917 due to illness.

Arthur died about July, 1977.
