Charles Rutherford Scott was the son of George and Mary Scott of Monks End, Aycliffe. George was a joiner. Charles was baptized October 8, 1893 in Aycliffe. He was the brother of William Scott who was killed in action in 1918. Charles was born in 1893 and married Ada Stabler in 1918. Rank: Lance Corporal. Unit:431 Royal Engineers. In the Absent Voters' List of October 1918 Charles' address is given as North Terrace, Aycliffe. Charles lived in Heighington Street, Aycliffe when he died July 22, 1945 and is buried in St. Andrew's cemetery. Charles is the father of William Scott, baptized December 21, 1919, and Muriel Scott, baptized September 11, 1921. Muriel herself worked in a munitions factory in WWII. |
