George Edgar Matson

 

George Edgar Matson, born 1915, was the son of George Matson and Mary Allison Johnson of Aycliffe.

Known as Edgar he married Annie Hanson 1939 and had a son, George M. Matson, in 1940.

Army number: 818315. Rank: Corporal. Unit: Royal Artillery then 1st. Battalion, Parachute Regiment, Army Air Corps.

Edgar fought at Dunkirk and was at first reported missing in action. He then volunteered for the Parachute Regiment and saw action in Africa and Europe.

Edgar was killed at Arnhem September 25, 1944. He was 29 years old.

Edgar is commemorated on his parents grave in St. Andrew's Church cemetery, Aycliffe, Co. Durham.
