Edwin Tiffney was baptized September 12, 1897 at Kirk Deighton, Yorkshire. His parents were John Thomas and Eliza Tiffney. John was a Farm man.

In the 1911 census the family were at Patience Lane, Copt-Hewick, Ripon, Yorkshire. Edwin had 8 siblings, and was still at school.

Army number: 2920 then 201031. Rank: Private. Unit: West Yorkshire Regiment.

Edwin went to France October 14, 1915. He died September 27, 1916, age 19, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 2A. 2C and 2D.

Edwin is also commemorated on the Spa Gardens War Memorial in Ripon and on the Memorial Boards in Sharow Church, near Ripon.

Edwin is the great uncle of Diane Robinson of Newton Aycliffe.
