Frederick Dent was born 1898 in Aycliffe. His father, Henry James Dent, born in Staindrop, was a farmer. They lived at Low Moor Farm, Aycliffe in the 1911 census. His mother was Dinah Eales, born Coundon.

In the Absent Voters' List of October 1918 Frederick's address is given as Murton House Farm and he is Private 83785, Northumberland Fusiliers.

Frederick's father died 1945 at Aycliffe, and his mother in 1939.
