Chairman Mr C. Kent Clerk Mr Fred Richardson |
Aycliffe Darlington 20th February 1915 |
"National Relief Fund" | |
Dear Sir Yours of the 9th inst: to hand re the above, which was placed before my Council on the 18th inst:, when I was directed to say that, the Vicar of the Parish is making collections monthly for various funds you include on your record sheet, there are also about one dozen Belgian refugees quartered at Coatham Hall, Coatham Mundeville, a village one mile from here, and the inhabitants of Aycliffe are helping in the need but there is a Special Committee appointed to direct the course of the proceeds collected towards same. The above Council are collecting nothing towards the Fund as the district is only a working class one and men are having so much retained from their weekly wages towards Mayors funds etc. |
