George E. Kent

Sapper George Edmund Kent of the Royal Engineers was honoured for his gallant conduct and devotion to duty on 1 July, 1916.

George Edmund Kent was the son of Charles Kent and Hannah Wilkinson. George married Lily Agnes Davison in Sedgefield in 1921. Lily was the daughter of butcher John Joseph Davison and the granddaughter of Francis John Davison and Sarah Ann Kent. Lily's older sister Sarah Alice Davison married George's brother Joseph William Kent and it looks as though it was a double wedding.

In the Absent Voters' List of October 1918 George's address is High Row, Aycliffe, George is listed as Sergeant 46322, 79 Royal Engineers.

George and Lily are thought to have had a son and a daughter. Sadly Lily died in 1934 aged 34. It is believed that George remarried in 1931. He lived in Spennymoor and died in Bishop Auckland Hospital 14 March, 1965, aged about 68.

Many thanks to Beryl Wilson for the extra family details.
