Pte Harry Searle served in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He was the brother of Miss Searle who lived in Durham Road, Aycliffe. Harry is Henry William Searle, born 1883, son of John Searle and Sarah Hadrick. In 1891 they were living in North Terrace, Aycliffe. Henry had a sister Annie and two brothers, John and Alic. In the 1901 census Harry's grandmother, Mary Hadrick, was living with the family in North Terrace, Aycliffe. In 1911 Henry is 27, single, and working as a railway clerk. He was a boarder at 3, Alexandra Road, Morpeth. Henry William Searle married Alice Scorer September, 1923 and died March 1957 in the Sunderland area. In the Absent Voters' List of October 1918 Harry and his brothers John and Alic are listed with the address of North Terrace, Aycliffe. Harry was Private 1149, 17th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiilers. Alic Searle was Corporal 39768, 13 Yks. and Lancs. John Searle is Gunner 286702, 2 Battery, Royal Gun Artillery. |
