Herbert Christie was born 1890 in Darlington, one of 8 sons of William and Mary Christie.

He married Christina Ibbotson and had two daughters, Edith and Muriel.

Herbert was Stoker 1st Class aboard HMS Opal, Royal Navy. He died 12 January, 1918, age 28. He is commemorated at Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Grave 30.

Herbert is the grandfather of Enid Hugill of Newton Aycliffe.
