James William Graham was born 1888 in Richmond, Yorkshire.

Parents: George Graham, born Colsterdale, Yorkshire, and Annie Brigham, born Willington, Durham.

In the 1901 census the family were living at Coatham Mill. George Graham was a miller and corn dealer. He had 8 children.

By the 1911 census Annie Graham had died and James was no longer at home.
