James Slack was born 1900 at Eldon, Durham. He was the son of Thomas Slack of Arkengarthdale, Yorkshire, and Elizabeth of Eldon.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 10, Albert Street, Shildon. Thomas Slack was a coal miner hewer.

James Slack served in the Durham Light Infantry.

James died 1922.
