John Robert Leng was born 1888 at Pity Me, Co. Durham.

James Leng was born 1890, also at Pity Me.

Parents: James Jordan Leng and Ann Johnson.

1911 census the family were at Broom Park, Durham. There had been 10 children but 4 had died. One of their sisters was Ethel Leng who married John Parker in 1919.

John Robert was known as Jack. His medal card survives. He was Private 62365 Royal Welsh Fusiliers, then 14210 Border Regiment, then 40174 Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and finally Royal Engineers 353951.

James Leng's war service records have not survived.

James and John Robert Leng are great uncles of Mrs Willis of Newton Aycliffe.
