John Godfrey Coles, born 1893 at Kirkcudbright. He was the son of Frederick R Coles and Margaret N Blacklock. John had two brothers and two sisters.

John enlisted into the Royal Scots, Private 2060. He entered the war February 24, 1915. John received his commission December 15, 1917. He joined the Gordon Highlanders as 2nd Lieutenant 292001.

John Godfrey Coles is the father of Margaret Lee of School Aycliffe.
