John Thomas Gosling

John Thomas Gosling was born December 4, 1898 in Malta. He wa the son of JohnThomas Tuxworth Gosling of Lincolnshire and Mariana Carrillo, who were married August 25, 1894 in Gibraltar.

In the1911 census the family were living at 24, Tait Street, Carlisle. John had 1 sister and 1 brother. John was still at school.

John was 18 years and 1 month old when he attested. John was a fireman working for the N.E.R. He was called for service January 3, 1917 and joined the RH & RFA, Bdr 203167. He was first posted to the No. 2 Reserve Bde. Artillery T.F. January 4, 1917. He was then posted to the 397 Battery, R.F.A Dundalk January 8, 1917. He became a Signaller.

John was earmarked for special duty under Authy H.2.ND to Belfast January 21, 1919 and was then reposted to R.F.G. Cork May 4 as PaL/Bdr. British Forces had been used in Ireland since the insurrection in 1916.

John was sent to a Dispersal Centre November 29, 1919.

John married Elizabeth Jane Traill Maxwell in 1926 at Carlisle. He died at Carlisle in 1976.

John Thomas Gosling is the grandfather of Sue Hindle of Aycliffe.
