Leonard Vincent Potts was born September 4, 1873 in Bishop Wearmouth, Sunderland. He was the son of Leonard Vincent Potts and Mary Ann Ryans.

Leonard married Maggie Murray Munro in 1895. In the 1911 census Leonard was living at 3, Shepherd Street, Sunderland. He was 37 and had 5 children. Leonard worked as a postman.

Leonard enlisted 1915. He served in 6 Platoon, B Coy., 18th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, Private 1688. According to his medal card Leonard also served in the Rifle Brigade, Private 38041.

Leonard is the grandfather of Mrs Watson of Aycliffe.
