Maud Elizabeth Wilson served as a nurse in France in World War 1, from 1914 - 1918. She was born about 1899. She was awarded a medal for service in the front line, and her son, Eric White, still has this - a source of great pride for him. Maud married Ernest White and ran the County Hotel in Aycliffe. Maud also delivered babies in Aycliffe. Maud died August 1, 1970, age 71, and is buried in St. Andrew's Churchyard. Maud's brother, William Stanley Wilson, born January 17, 1901, married Fanny Ord in 1921. He ran the Scouts in Aycliffe. |
