Peter Maughan, born 1888 at Leasingthorne, Co. Durham, was the son of Peter and Mary Jane Maughan.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 5, Oak Terrace, Leasingthorne. Peter was 23 and doing shift work (in the mine?). The following year, 1912, Peter married Margaret Hannah Henderson, and lived at 24, Front Street, Kirk Merrington, Co. Durham.

Peter joined the 7th Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment, Private 19266. He served from October 7, 1915.

Peter was killed in action August 12, 1918. He is commemorated at the Heath Cemetery, Harbonnières, east of Amiens, Grave II.B.3.

Peter Maughan is the great uncle of Judith Wilson of Newton Aycliffe.
