William Vickers

William Vickers was born about 1893 in CoathamMundeville. He was the son of Charles Henry Vickers and Mary Jane Robinson of New House Farm, Coatham Mundeville.

In the 1901 census there are 4 sons, including William. At the next farm, Stanley Farm, is John Vickers with a brother and 2 sisters. Are these William's siblings?

In the 1911 census Charles Henry Vickers was a widower with 3 sons and 1 daughter living with him at New House Farm, Coatham Mundeville.

William emigrated to Australia aboard the Armadale, departing 28 October, 1913 at London and arriving at Fremantle. He must have returned home as he is on the Orsova, departing 15 January, 1915, bound for Australia. He lived at Kalgoorie, Western Australia (for gold prospecting?). He was 23 when he arrived in Australia. He enlisted into the Australian Infantry in 1915. He was a corporal, 2242, in the 32nd Battalion, Australian Infantry.

William was killed in action 16, March, 1918 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres, Panel 7-17-23-25-27-29-31.
