Thomas Waterworth was born 1897 in Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire. His parents were John and Jane Waterworth. In the 1911 census the family were living at 41, Post Office Street, Low Spennymoor, Co. Durham. His father was a coal miner hewer and Thomas was a pit bank belt lad. Attested: October 3, 1914. He was 18 years 1 month old. Army number: 2994, then 250306. Rank: Sergeant. Unit: 6th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. Thomas served in France from August 20, 1915 until January 1, 1919, and was discharged January 30, 1919. Thomas Waterworth is the brother of Alice Ann Waterworth, wife of Thomas Lowery of Byers Green. Thomas and Alice Lowery are the grandparents of Bill Lowery of Newton Aycliffe. |
