George Simpson Tweddle

George Simpson Tweddle was born 1916 in Coatham Mundeville, Darlington.

Parents: George Tweddle and Edith Collinson. George Tweddle senior served in WW1.

George had two brothers and six sisters. George worked on a farm at nearby Brafferton and kept pigs. He saw his mother every evening.

George Simpson Tweddle served in the Royal Army Service Corps, T/183310 and became a sergeant.

George did his training at Manningham Park near Bradford, Yorkshire. He met his wife , Winifred Maude, of Prospect Place, Windhill, Shipley, not far from Bradford, at a showground in the area.

George and Winifred married in 1942. George only had two periods of leave.

George was killed November 23, 1944 and is buried in Cesena War Cemetery, Italy.

 

George's younger sister Florence served as a nursing auxiliary in WW11 and kindly supplied the information about George.
